DEKO Glazed Partitions and Doors Adorn New Museum in Budapest
For many years, Budapest – the capital of Hungary – has been known as one of Europe’s cultural highlights. That perception is even further enhanced when you stroll through one of the city’s parks, the site of a brand new museum of ethnography.
The building, which opened on 23 May 2022, is the jewel in the crown of a major urban project involving four other, educationally oriented buildings. The museum contains countless ethnographic objects that reflect the history of Hungary. In addition to Hungarian collection, there are also exhibitions spotlighting Asia, Africa and South America.

At first glance, you could easily mistake the arc-shaped building for a skateboard ramp. But it does not take long before you notice a building with tall glass fa?ades, and a roof planted with grass and other flora to serve as a green oasis.

DEKO supplied DEKO FG glazed partitions and glazed doors for this prestigious project.

The hallmarks of DEKO FG Glass are a single layer of glass, transparency, minimalistic frames and almost pure glass – perfect for a museum building where everything is about the interior behind the glazed partitions, so visitors can enjoy the objects on display.

Throughout the museum there are glazed partitions of various sizes, that fit perfectly into the arc-shaped building, starting at the tall end, disappearing underground and then concluding at the tall end again. The glazed solutions were installed by DEKO’s long-standing partner, the contracting company GMB Solutions, which is headquartered in Budapest.

Unique project

According to Péter Gál, CEO of GMB Solutions, there was little doubt that DEKO’s glazed solutions would adorn the partitions of the new museum in this central European capital of culture.

“We’ve been working with DEKO for 20 years. We recommended FG glass because all the technical details were perfect for the architecture. The shape of the glass is really impressive, and I think it was an excellent choice. The architect was delighted with DEKO and I believe everyone is satisfied,” he says.

But, even though Péter Gál views the project so positively, he adds that this is the first time GMB Solutions has installed glazed partitions in a museum building.

“The unique thing about this project was that our main work tends to be on office buildings. So for us, a museum project was something totally new,” he says. “It’s a little more challenging than office buildings, but the result was a success. But you still have to think a bit out of the box when it comes to this kind of building.”

Major international award

The spectacular, arc-shaped building, which was designed by Napur Architects, has already won numerous distinguished awards.

These include the ‘World’s Best Architecture’ award at the 2021 International Property Awards, an annual award ceremony in London that celebrates all kinds of architecture.
