From obsolete freight terminal to ultramodern office block
Since August 2019, as trade contractor, DEKO has been working all out on a radical transformation of DSB’s old freight terminal at Kalvebod Brygge in central Copenhagen. DEKO has been in charge of all interior carpentry work, and now the new, state-of-the-art office block is ready for occupancy. Modernisation of original industrial building
The cool, grey concrete and square shape of the facade testify to the fact that the building was created in the 1960s, when the hallmarks of Danish architecture were industry and brutalism. Today, just under 60 years later, building and interior design have reverted to raw materials as a homage to industrialisation. Accordingly, during the transformation of the old freight terminal, a decision was made to preserve parts of the facade’s industrial look and invest the interior with the same style, using materials such as wood and raw concrete.

DEKO employed a team of around 16 experienced and skilled carpenters to transform the interior of the building. In addition to 2,300 m2 of new dry walls and 18,000 m2 of ceilings, we supplied and fitted DEKO FG fully glazed partitions and DEKO FG Fire fire-classified fully glazed partitions for a total area of 2,900 m2, and 10 DEKO MV semi-automatic mobile partitions and safety doors. The numerous fully glazed partitions and practical partition/door systems help create a contemporary, bright, open office environment, while original elements such as raw concrete beams have been integrated into the interior design with an eye to preserving the industrial identity of the building.
